Faith Conversation in regards to Caving

In the last LL blog post; "Uber Freaky Caving Experience..." there were some really cool comments about the experience i wrote about. one is from James a student at Clayburn and a good buddy of mine. the question was so simple but also so deep that i though it deserved its own post. it is written below in Italics and i respond below that

Kudos to James for asking tough questions!

hi its james and well your caving must have been fun but i have a question. Why would you be afraid if you knew thet jesus was with you? that could be a question realy easy to answer but i dont know

James,

well i did eventually make it through. here is how i think it works in stuff like this. i think this applies to all of life, not just crawling through caves!

i get really scared even chicken out at times and i have to remind myself... "yes Jesus is with me... i am very scared... but i CHOOSE to trust Him to help me out"

it is not easy to believe in Jesus... or even to believe that He loves me and will take care of me. some days it is, and some days it is really tough. just like when i was crawling thruogh the cave... i take one challenge at a time and keep going forward.

i'm glad i was alone in the cave, because i was praying out loud... "Jesus help me" and then, "thank you Jesus" and then... "Jesus Help me"

Jesus did help me through even though i was scared. another thing that helped me was seeing my friends go through the cave and come out okay... my friend Lowell encouraged me to do it and told me that i would be fine. it is the same way with believing in Jesus. if i see someone else who i trust doing it, it becomes easier for me. i say to myself "well it works for them... it will work for me too!"

anyways James it is an ongoing thing where we learn as we go to trust Jesus.

Amazing Question James!

good thoughts guys...

i guess i am saying that it is one thing to be scared, and it is another to be scared and choose to trust in God for help.

James, the people who are devoted to Jesus have Him to turn to. being scared is a natural response to some of the things that happen in life. the difference is having Jesus to turn to when you do get scared.
