Pizza Christian - 1 peter 2:12 PT. 2

so it has been more than a week and there have been some very good comments posted about the 1 peter passage. i want to describe what this passage means by telling a story.

1 Peter 2:12 says, "Be careful how you live among your unbelieving neighbors. Even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will believe and give honor to God when he comes to judge the world."

after graduating from high school i spent a year working to save money to go to bible college. in that year i had 4 different jobs and in what ever job i was in there seemed to be an opportunity to share my faith. but quite often i found that in order to share my faith i needed to show people without words... let me explain

one of the jobs that i had was in a pizza place... before i even worked one shift someone had told my boss that i was a Christian. my boss was someone who thought that Christians were a bunch of losers and hypocrites, and in my time there he made it his personal goal to mock and harass me for my beliefs.

he wasn't interested in hearing about God, or the difference that Jesus had made in my life unless it was to tease me or debate with me.

over time a few more Christians got hired, and he began to notice that even though he liked to harass us, the Christian people were always honest and they seemed to work really hard. he even began to ask us if we knew other people who wanted jobs because he wanted Christian people to work for him.

he began to realize that he could trust me... he realized that being a Christian gave me a higher standard than a lot of people had. i had a very good friendship with him and he began to really respect me.

as far as i know my boss never became a christian, but i know that God used the Christian people at that store to show my boss that Christians weren't a bunch of losers and hypocrites like he thought.

this is just one example of how when we are careful to be a good example even if our unbelieving neighbors are hard on us God will use us to show them what he is like.

i definitely got annoyed with him... but i also knew that that was what he wanted... if i broke down and screamed at him he would laugh and say, "see you christians aren't so loving afterall"

but i was honest with him at times... you can be honest about how someone is really frustrating you and do it in a loving way.

hey its james.I like that phil ( not your boss but your response to laura)if I got down and screemed at someone who was bugging me I'd propably do something stupid out of anger that i'd regret later. and laura it propably was worth it in the end because if phil screamed at his boss he would propably get fired, treated even more poorly,or put in unfare situations where any decision you make leads to something bad. Way to go NEways(anyways) I gotta go .C YA!

shenise... i think there may be times in your life where you have to make a stand. the good thing is that God will give you the strength to be the person he wants you to be... it is not about whether you are able to or not.. it is about whether you let God use you!

i think you will do great!

Phil

i think i need to make clear that our unbelieving neighbors are not all these evil people out get us...

they are people like us who haven't yet accepted God's forgiveness... there will be times when they will be hard on us, but we can't go around looking down on people who aren't Christians yet.

this is really important...

Phil
